In this guide, we’re sharing our Top 10 Things to Do in Victoria, BC, based on our own adventures with our family travel vlog, Freedom Champagne. We used to be full-time RV travelers and now explore when we can — always believing that when you take risks, you get to drink champagne.
1.Rent Bikes and Explore Dallas Road
One of the best ways to see Victoria is by bike. The city is compact, scenic, and incredibly bike-friendly. We rented bikes on our last day and immediately wished we’d done it sooner! The ride along Dallas Road offers spectacular coastal views, ocean breeze, and plenty of stops for photos. Whether you rent bikes or scooters, it’s the perfect way to explore beyond downtown. Cycle BC was amazing for our victoria bike rental and we’d highly recommend renting bikes when looking for things to do in Victoria.
2.Visit Fisherman’s Wharf
Fisherman’s Wharf is one of Victoria’s most unique spots — a colourful floating neighbourhood filled with houseboats, shops, and food stalls. Grab some fresh fish and chips, watch the boats come and go, and enjoy a fun, laid-back vibe that captures the spirit of the island. We enjoyed the red fish blue fish restaurant for their fresh fresh and chips.
3.Wander Through Fan Tan Alley and Chinatown
Victoria is home to North America’s oldest Chinatown, and its highlight is Fan Tan Alley — a narrow passage filled with little shops, art, and restaurants. It’s a short stroll, but a memorable one, offering a peek into the city’s history. Bonus tip: If you’re a thrifting fan, stop by the only Value Village on the island nearby!
4.Explore Downtown Victoria
Downtown Victoria is perfect for wandering. The streets are safe, clean, and full of character — even in the rain! Stroll through boutiques, cafés, and markets, and take in the city’s blend of British architecture and west coast charm.
5.Stroll Through the Rose Garden and Visit Craigdarroch Castle
Just a short walk from downtown, the Rose Garden at Government House is a peaceful escape surrounded by towering trees and colourful blooms. On our way there, we even saw deer grazing in the neighbourhood!
Nearby, you’ll find Craigdarroch Castle, a magnificent 19th-century mansion built by Scottish coal baron Robert Dunsmuir. Inside, you can explore restored rooms, intricate woodwork, and panoramic views from the tower. It’s a step back in time and one of Victoria’s hidden treasures.
6.Experience the Victoria Harbour
The Inner Harbour is the city’s heartbeat — with sea planes landing, water taxis buzzing, and the Parliament Buildings standing proudly on the waterfront. Visit during the day for ocean views or at night to see the buildings beautifully lit up.
7. Walk Across the Johnson Street Bridge
The Johnson Street Bridge connects East and West Victoria and offers gorgeous harbour views. Every now and then, the bridge lifts to let large boats pass — there’s no schedule, so if you’re lucky, you’ll catch it in motion. It’s a fun, unexpected moment to witness during your walk.
8. Relax in Beacon Hill Park
If you love green spaces, Beacon Hill Park is a must. Home to peacocks, ducks, ancient trees, and the famous Moss Lady, this massive park blends nature and play perfectly. There are flower gardens, playgrounds, pickleball courts, and even ocean viewpoints — all just a short walk from downtown.
9. Enjoy Dinner at Vista 18 Restaurant

10. Spend a Rainy Day at the Interactivity Board Game Café
Victoria is famous for its rain, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun indoors. On one rainy afternoon, we visited the Interactivity Board Game Café, and it quickly became one of our favourite stops!
For just $7 per person, you can stay as long as you want and play as many games as you like. The staff are friendly, helpful, and will even suggest games and explain the rules. With great food, drinks, and local beer, it’s the perfect cozy escape for families or friends.
